Cardigan Rise Vineyard
Billanook College is located at the gateway to the Yarra Valley – a region famous for a vibrant viticulture industry. In conjunction with Yarra Valley winemakers Billanook has developed its own vineyard and Viticulture Skills Centre. The 4 hectare Cardigan Rise vineyard is ideally located on the Billanook Campus right next to the Viticulture Skills Centre.
The vineyard is used for a variety of other subjects across the Middle and Senior Schools. Maths and Science students calculate the harvest tonnage and the baume (sugar levels) present in the grapes, and Visual Arts students design and produce the annual wine label which is then professionally applied in the commercial bottling process.
The aims of the VCE VET Food Processing/Wine program are to provide students with the foundation knowledge and skills to achieve competencies which will enhance their employment prospects within the sector of the food processing industry, to gain a recognised credential and to assist in making an informed choice of career pathways.
