Success at German Poetry Competition

Five German students from Billanook College have won prizes in the annual Regional German Poetry Competition, with two students advancing through to the State Finals.

Nine students studying German at year levels 7, 8 and 9 took part in the competition held at Donvale Christian School on 3 August, where they competed with students from schools in the Eastern region.

Year 7 students Ella Mortelliti, Yasmin Saab and Benjamin Richards joined Emma Sampson, Alyssa Levy and Marc Feltham from Year 8 and Scout Vos, Melanie Volf, and Igor Ivanenko of Year 9 as participants in the competition.

Students had to perform a poem in front of judges and were assessed on clarity, fluency and interpretation.

Emma Sampson took first prize in the Year 8, with Alyssa Levy from Billanook coming second.  Fellow Year 8 Marc Feltham received an Honorary Mention as well. 

Scout Vos came third and Melanie Volf won an Honorary Mention in the Year 9 competition, capping off a highly successful event for Billanook College.

Special congratulations to Emma Sampson and Alyssa Levy who have been invited to perform their poem at the State Finals on August 20. 

All students who participated acted as outstanding ambassadors for the College and should be congratulated on their efforts.
