Year 9 Politics Program

Students in Year 9 participate in Billanook's unique civic education program called Politics Week. Students in each House draw one of Australia's political parties out of a hat and for one week they have to mount an election campaign. Each House elects leaders, develops policies and launches its campaign to the whole community. Visiting speakers from the Electoral Commission and political parties provide first hand insights into the democratic process. The election is conducted by the Victorian Electoral Commission and is run in accordance with their regulations. Students experience a real life election. Politics Week has won several awards for outstanding education in democracy, civics and governance to achieve their goals and to make a difference.
