An enriching life of openness, confidence, curiosity and independent thinking begins at Billanook.
Children in our Early Learning Program are challenged to learn in a way that is joyful and engaging, with the focus being on the individual needs of every child.
The learning journey at Billanook College commences with the Early Learning Program (ELP) and provides for a seamless transition into the Primary years.
The principles that underpin the Billanook College ELP are founded in the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and include:
We encourage a partnership between home and school where we work with and build on what children have previously experienced, and welcome parents’ involvement in the journey.
Billanook College is an open entry school where all students are valued for their individual gifts, skills and talents.
Children learn in an experimental way and the Billanook College ELP is one that is founded on active learning through open ended and guided play.
As part of the Junior Learning Centre (JLC), the Early Learning Program circumvents some of the challenges associated with a child’s transition into the Preparatory year. Our programs recognise a learning journey allowing for an easy transition for the child from the early years into the Primary School and beyond.
Billanook College focuses on the development of the whole child and aims to produce well-rounded individuals. An understanding of the world around them is critical for the successful growth and development of children. Our ELP focuses on their role in this world and responsibility for its careful stewardship.
Being part of the ELP, situated in our Junior Learning Centre, enables children access to resources and opportunities as part of the wider Billanook community.
The principles that underpin the Billanook College ELP have their foundation in the Victorian Early Years’ Learning and Development Framework.
We recognise that a considered transition assists children to make a positive start to their Billanook journey. Children are more likely to feel comfortable, valued, build strong relationships and have a sense of belonging. Ultimately, transition helps them to feel settled and improves their chances of learning to the best of their ability.
A comprehensive Transition Program has been developed to engage our Early Learners, when they enter the Program, and also in readiness for their progression into Prep.
