Teaching and learning at Billanook College both support and promote the principles and practices of Australian democracy, with a commitment to:

  • Elected Government
  • The rule of law
  • Equal rights for all before the law
  • Freedom of religion
  • Freedom of speech and association
  • The values of openness and tolerance

These principles are expressed through the election process for student leadership, our Student Representative Board, the College’s commitment to the IDEALS of Round Square (one of the pillars being democracy), our employment policies and our civics and citizenship programs, including our Year 9 Politics Program.

The College proudly flies the Australian and Aboriginal flags over our campus each day and displays the Apology to Australia’s Indigenous Peoples prominently in our Reception area.

For further information on the College’s commitment to democracy and equity, please view our Statement Upon Equity and Equal Opportunity and Respectful Workplace Policy.
